Happy Columbus Day … I Think

In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue … and thought he landed in India.

5OO+ years later, we celebrate it as a holiday. Of course, the Vikings were here first. They apparently had the good sense not to declare it to the world.

At any rate, this is a Federal Holiday, which means nothing to those of us who toil away at a computer all day long, crafting words from the ether. Or something like that.

I take it back: the day does have some meaning. No mail delivery. No checks in the mail, but no rejections in the mail, either. And even if a check did have the temerity to make its way through the Postal Service to the mailbox (read: it got delivered to a neighbor who put it in my box, and I managed to find it before the neighborhood thieves), the bank wouldn’t be open to cash it.

The holiday didn’t stop the stock markets. Nor did it stop the news cycle.

Ah, perhaps I’m just still feeling down from the con crud.

That, or just the fact that it’s Monday. That must be it.
