Sarah Palin Pardons a Turkey

Friday, November 21st, 2008

So the chief executive of a state pardons a turkey. So far, so good. So, poor Tom was to filthy for her to touch? Hey, I can get behind that.

The interview that follows is too surreal to be believed. And please heed their warning: If you’re squeamish or you have kids in the room, or if you really don’t want to know THAT much detail about what might happen to Tom if he hadn’t been pardoned, don’t watch further. The first part is family-friendly, and they blurred the worst bits in the second part.

You KNOW You Were Thinking This Tuesday Night

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

Unless you’re living in a cave, you know all about the momentous event that took place on Tuesday. No, I’m not talking about THAT. I’m talking about CNN’s hologram technology.

Slate has their own take on Wolf Blitzer’s inteview with Jessica Yellin.

(Small caveat: I couldn’t get this video to run under Mozilla, but it worked under IE just fine. Fitting, perhaps, given the subject matter.)

Your Guide to Retro-Style Election Party Fun!

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

The polls will be closing soon, and I know you’re thinking, “gosh, wouldn’t be fun to have en election-themed party tonight?”

We’re here to help! A themed party is easy and fun. Just follow these tips:

First, place plenty of chairs around the home theater system. Be sure everyone can see the telly.

Aren’t you glad you spent extra money on that big screen?

Next, decide what channel you’re going to watch. There will be some argument among the guests, but remember, the host(ess) decides. And like the geek you are, you’ll go with the channel that has the most high-tech electoral map possible. No cruddy old white boards for you.

Oooh, shiny!

Of course, you have to have food. Start by passing out the patriotic drinks. You’ll want everyone to be in a stupor before the first returns come in.

Mmmm! Just take Alaska from the map and float it on top for an interesting frozen garnish!

And what would an election party be without patriotic pork?

Stars and Stripes Forever!

And let’s not forget the dessert!

Who wouldn’t want to tear into that?

Most of all, have fun! And remember, we’ll wake up tomorrow to a new president-elect. Hand me some more of those drinks.

Real “Joe the Plumbers” Rake In Publicity, Dough

Monday, October 20th, 2008

Of course, Joe Wurzelbacher isn’t the only plumber with that given first name. What about other plumbers named Joe? At least one is selling T-shirts with his logo. Gotta wonder what that URL is worth now.

Others are signing autographs and fielding questions from the press.

Hey, get it while you can.

Your Traveler Vote

Monday, October 13th, 2008

As in, “who has the money to travel, so who cares?”

I’m almost in that boat (gives me an excuse to reuse the graphic!), and I care, only because I’m going out of town in March for a convention in LA. This means I have to fly.

While perusing the msnbc.com site, I found this article about 5 questions to ask before voting. So, how do the presidential candidates stack up when it comes to solving our travel woes? Good question. No one answered any questionnaires.

The last couple of paragraphs were more interesting. Don’t stay home, it says, at least cast a ballot for a local candidate. The author explains why. Makes for some interesting reading.
