Look What I Found Today!

I’ve been dealing with a rash of spam these past few days. Pardon me for ignoring other site updates.

As always, if you’re a first time commenter your remarks will get held for moderation. If you want to stay out of the spam folder, keep these handy tips in mind:

1. Never use a drug name in your domain name or e-mail address. That’s the fastest route to Askimet spam hell. If you have a genuine comment I’ll eventually fish it out of the spam bucket, in which case I thank you for your patience.

2. Don’t send multiple pingbacks to the same blog post, and don’t make the pingbacks progressively more vulgar. The only thing you’ll prove is how fast I can ban your IP address.

3. Don’t be coy and post your porn in a foreign language. Ja, du lieber, I can ban IP addresses auf Deutch if need be.

4. In short, be human and don’t be an idiot. That’s easy, isn’t it?

According to this press release, this is the network identified by Spamhaus as the “largest ‘spam gang’ in the world.”

Of course, it’s not going to stop the spam. Apparently one of those charged has a history of this sort of behavior. But any respite, however brief, from e-mails of dubious origin pushing pills designed to enhance body parts I don’t have is very welcome.
